Haunted Places In Delhi
1. Delhi Cantonment
The Cantonment area can arguably be the safest area in the state, aside from some spooky hauntings. Around this area, many drivers have claimed to have seen a ghostly woman in a white saree wandering around the roads and hitchhiking late at night. When drivers deny a lift, she follows them with the same speed as that of the car. This makes up for an unforgettable experience or a terrifying nightmare.
2. Lothian Cemetery
Cemeteries are of course the backdrop to several ghost stories, just like palaces, and this cemetery in Delhi is no exception. Trespassers on this cemetery often hear chilling cries and laugh hanging in the air. If that’s not spooky enough, some people have claimed to see a headless ghost, taking the lives of those who encounter it, and those who are saved from it are too catatonic to recount it. Sure sounds made-up, but the eerie atmosphere itself raises questions in one’s mind.

3. Agrasen Ki Baoli
This 104-storeyed stepwell may be architecturally or historically renowned but it’s also well known for its dark forces. When it was in use, it was said to be contaminated with black water and saw several suicides committed in it. Stories of hauntings might be scarce but the creepy feeling one gets in its presence keeps people away from this Baoli.
4. DDA flats In Qutub Enclave Phase II
One of the most haunted areas of Delhi has shown it’s resident’s grim sights of a woman hanging upside down from a tree. That tree too is located outside the abandoned haunted house of the area. Chilling drop in temperature and the shrill laughter of a woman keeps people away from this house. Some people have detailed accounts of strange ghosts, like a woman in ancient attire disappearing before them, that they encountered in the complex. The complex is said to have been built on a graveyard.
5. Firoz Shah Kotla Fort
The grim ruins of Firoz Shah Kotla Fort are in an area of dead silence. Locals still feel the presence of the ancient inhabitants in the fort even if it’s as old as the 14th century. To calm the spirits down, some people get together on Thursdays at the fort and they have claimed to experience strange pushes and fragrances during that time. And all the evil even follows them home.
6. Khooni Darwaza
Just be the name you can tell how infamous this place is in the surroundings. Several instances of people hearing screams and yells from this historic monument are well known in the area. The chilling history of the Darwaza explains itself; it was the site of the murder of 3 Indian princesses and the Britishers used to hang Indian revolutionaries here as well. Without even knowing this past, one can feel the chills in this monument’s presence.
7. Delhi Ridge Area
This area is still with utter silence and low reception in the mobile network, and even the fauna seems to have abandoned it. Several stories of a Britisher’s spirit roaming around the region, carrying an old-school rifle, keep the people away. Unexplained disappearances in the area are attributed to this haunted ridge area.
8. Sanjay Van
The dense and dark forest of Sanjay Van is a regular spot for nature lovers and picnics on a sunny day. While at night, the thick forest transforms into a cold and nightmarish place. Those who have dared to visit it at night, claim to have seen an elder woman in white and some children, following them with shrill laughs and cries. They scare you out of your wits with unexplained pushes and touches, ensuring that you get lost in the night.
9. The Karkardooma Delhi Court
Just like in Mumbai, many lawyers at the Karkardooma Court Complex have experienced supernatural activities around them. Strange inhuman events like unexpectedly shutting and opening of doors, drawers, and chairs being turned upside down, flickering lights, and strange figures in the corridors have been recorded in the closed-circuit cameras of the court. Certainly, a chilling thing to hear about a place of law and order.
10. The Haunted Tree Of Dwarka Sector 9
Traveling in the vicinity of the infamous haunted tree of Dwarka Sector 9 metro station is refrained by the locals, especially in the night. Just because of being there, the tree has caused several accidents and the pedestrians report strange sounds at night. Workers with night shifts have recounted someone pushing or slapping them near the tree, and hence several people avoid this route.
There are several other places and areas with their own local horror story, and many can be found by just asking around in the old city area. With a dense population and bloody history, Delhi is covered in hidden mysteries and folklore.
