Spiti Valley is considered to be the cold desert mountain valley located in Himalayas. The meaning of Spiti is 'The Middle Land'. Basically it is the land between Tibet and India.
Spiti Valley is an altitude of 12,500 feet above sea level. It only gets around 250 days of sunshine, that makes it one of the coldest places in the country. Due to heavy snow, this place cuts off from the rest of the country for around 6 months a year. It is accessible only during summer months.
Spiti Valley attracts lots of trekkers and hikers because the terrain of this place is quite high and difficult.
Culture
Spiti valley is the cultural centre for Buddhists. Key Monastery and Tabo Monastery are the key highlights. Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasterie. Several movies including films Paap, Highway and Milarepa had scenes shot in this location.
