ABOUT SAPUTARA

To get temporary relief from the scorching heat of the sun, people often visit hilly areas where low temperature is preferred. Saputara is a hill station, basically a town situated at high altitude than the nearby plain areas or valley where weather is cooler than the lower region area. Saputara is one and only hill town or hill station situated in the western ghats of Gujrat. Deriving its name from the snake god being worshipped by the town’s tribal community, Saputara is often known as the abode of serpents. The town has major historical and religious significance. It is said in a legend that Lord Rama stayed here for the longest period of time during his exile.

Saputara has a population of about three thousand people of which about a thousand are males while the others are females, a census conducted in 2011 reported and is Located in the Dang Forest region of the Sahyadri mountain range in the Western Ghats. The literacy rate of Saputara is about 87 percent and has a higher literacy rate compared to the Dangs district. The town has been now converted into a hill resort and all modern amenities like hotels, restaurants and even a museum are available there. The thick green bushy forests and waterfalls provide a respite from the drier cities of the state. It's one of the most organized and well-planned hill stations in India.
