To get temporary relief from the scorching heat of the sun, people often visit hilly areas where low temperature is preferred. A hill station is basically a town located at a higher elevation than the nearby plain or valley where temperatures are cooler than the lower region area. Saputara is one and only hill town or hill station situated in the western ghats of Gujrat. Deriving its name from the snake god being worshipped by the town’s tribal community, Saputara is often known as the abode of serpents. The town has major historical and religious significance. It is said in a legend that Lord Rama stayed here for the longest period of time during his exile.
Located in the Dang Forest region of the Sahyadri mountain range in the Western Ghats it has a population of about three thousand people of which about a thousand are males while the others are females, a census conducted in 2011 reported. The literacy rate of Saputara is about 87 percent and has a higher literacy rate compared to the Dangs district. The town has now been developed into a hill resort with all modern amenities like hotels, restaurants, and even a museum. The thick green bushy forests and waterfalls provide a respite from the drier cities of the state. It is one of the most organized and well-planned hill stations in India.
There are plenty of tourist attractions here from riding the cable car to paddling your way across a river. From taking a look at the exhibits at the museum to taking a stroll through a beautiful garden. Some of the popular places to visit in here are Sunrise Point and Sunset Point, Botanical gardens, Gira waterfalls, Mahal Forest, Unnai Mata Temple & Hot Spring followed by Grimal Falls, Vansda National Park, Purna Sanctuary, Saputara Tribal Museum, and many more tourist places. For offbeat travel, you can also opt for a camping spot in the hills and stay there instead of regular hotel accommodation, but you are completely responsible for the consequences and it depends up to you.
This town is the ideal getaway with the right blend of natural beauty and sightseeing attractions to keep you entertained as well as relaxed and rested. Also, there are monsoon festivals that are held every year. During the rains, one can enjoy a plethora of activities like water sports and heritage walks in the natural beauty of the place. With some of the most amazing cultural activities and breathtaking cultural shows at this place, the festival is truly vibrant and has loads of contests where one can participate.
