Best time to visit Leh

What is the best time to visit Leh Ladakh

The best time to visit Ladakh is in Summer. From April to June is the beast time when the climate of the place become pleasant and the place becomes accessible. During other time of the year, the Manali-Leh highway is closed and the only operational way is the Srinagar-Leh highway that also sees occasional landslides. So, it becomes hard to reach the place. September to October is also a good time to visit the place because the place becomes beautiful after monsoon. People who want the extreme adventure, they can think of going in December and January to experience The Frozen River Trek and see the snow covered mountains.

Leh Ladakh in Summer (April-June)

The best season to visit Ladakh is Summer and the place also becomes busiest. The temperature is still cld and varies around 5°C-7°C. Restaurants, Hotels and Guest Houses become operational and different companies start camps at sites such as Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri Lake. By the end of April melting of the lakes start and the place becomes more beautiful. Srinagar-Leh highway opens up by second week of May and this place becomes more crowded.

Leh Ladakh in Monsoon (July-August)

This is not the ideal time to visit the place and I don't recommend thinking about it even if you are adventure seeker. The place sees irregular to heavy rainfall in most places. Roads become risky to talk on or drive. Landslides and snowslides make this even dangerous and there are frequent road blockages.

Leh Ladakh in Early Winter (September-October)

After the monsoon season, the place becomes fresh and good to go. The level of flowing waters on lakes increases. Road conditions become better. The place again starts getting tourists but not as many as in summers. So, you can enjoy the place bit more freely.

Leh Ladakh in Winter (November-February)

This is the coldest season of Leh Ladakh. By this time, the place becomes too cool and lakes start freezing. Driving through the roads becomes dangerous. Still there are tourists who come to the place by beating the cold. The only thing that attracts people in this hard time is the view of changing colors of Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri that happens from November to December. From mid-January to March, the famous famous Chadar Trek becomes an attraction for adventure lovers. The frequent snowfall make this place hard and continues dip in temperature continues with each passing day.
