Alwar, a city in Rajasthan whose history dates back to 1000 CE is one of the most important cities. Known for its royal forts and palaces with nice gardens and exquisite temples it has a very rich history associated with it. During the medieval period, the king of Amer ruled the area in the eleventh century and expanded his territory up to the present city, Alwar. With time, different Rajput sub-clans came to rule Alwar and some of them were the Khanzada Rajputs, the Nikumbh Rajputs, the Badgujjar Rajputs, and finally the Naruka Rajputs who finally took the control over this area.

Partap Singh took the Alwar Fort from the Raja of Bharatpur and laid the foundation for modern day Alwar. Then during the colonial period, the Gazetteer of Alwar published the British Raj and Alwar was then subdivided into four regions which were Rath region, Wai region, Narukhand region and Mewat region respectively. Then post-independence Alwar saw massive changes as now it was merged with three neighboring princely states to form the Matsya Union. On May 15, 1949, it united with neighboring states and the territory of Ajmer to form the present-day Indian state of Rajasthan. Alwar was then designated as part of the National Capital Region, resulting in additional development which included rapid-rail to Delhi and water connectivity improvements.
