History and culture
Auli is inhabited by semi nomadic tribals called Bhotiyas. These people are of Mongolian origin. They traversed the trails at Auli in past and locally they are called Thatauli.
In the 8th century AD, the great Guru Adi Shankaracharya also visited the place and built a temple at Joshimath. The temple is known as Shankaracharya Tapasthali and it still exists here.
Auli is also the training ground for the men of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. Army men are trained in the extreme climatic conditions to be ready for extreme situations.
After Uttarakhand became a state, Auli started gaming popularity and now is one of the most popular tourists destinations of the state. Now it is a notable place for Skiing lovers.
