Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is India’s oldest national park which was established in 1936. Other than that, the place also has an interesting history with it.
During the early 1900s, many Britishers suggested setting up a national park in Uttarakhand. The British administration considered the possibility of creating a reserve there in 1907. In the 1930s, the process of demarcation for such area got underway and a reserve known as Hailey National Park covering was created. This during that time was Asia’s only National Park that came into existence.
Hunting was not allowed back then in the reserve, except timber cutting which was for domestic purposes. The reserve was then renamed during 1954 to 1955 as Ramganga National Park and was again renamed during 1955 to 1956 as Corbett National Park.
