A southern base camp that is located in Nepal and the other is the northern base camp, which is located in Tibet. These base camps are used by climbers and trackers as the base for climbing peak of Mount Everest. A long walkway is used to reach the southern base camp and the local resident Sherpa provides food-supplies and other essentials. On the other hand, there is a proper road up to the northern base camp which is located in Tibet. Climbers stay on the base camps for several days to adapt to the environment.
This track is one of the world’s most famous trekking routes and thousands of trackers come here every year. Typically, trackers come from the airways from Kathmandu to Lukla to save time and start tracking after Lukla. In 2015, more than 40000 trackers tracked the Everest Base Camp. This number of trackers shows the popularity of this track.
Southern Base Camp
Trackers start tracking from Lukla along the Dudh Kosi river to reach Namchi Bazar which is at the height of 3,440 meters (11,290 feet). It takes two days, but experienced trackers can finish it in one day. Namche Bazaar is the largest city in this track route. Here most of the trackers take a pause for a day or two so that they can make their body suitable for height. After this, it takes one day to reach Tengboche, the second-day Dingboche which is at 4,260 meters (13,980 feet), on the third-day Gorakshep and the base camp reaches the fourth day.
Northern Base Camp
Since the Northern Base Camp is located in Tibet (China), there is a special permit required to go there. These permits can always be obtained through various recognized travel companies located in Lhasa or any other part of China. It is necessary to get a car, driver, and guides, which the company provides. Base camp for general tourists is just a few minutes distance before the base camps used by climbers.
